Pay attention to who is appointed to the Supreme Court and why! November 23, 2005
John Roberts has been confirmed as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States to replace the late William Rehnquist. Now Congress will be selecting a replacement for Sandra Day O'Connor. This position on the court will most likely be the swing vote for many issue that affect you on a daily basis. There is much talk among politicians about "activist judges" and the constitutional role of a Supreme Court Justice. Judicial activism occurs frequently. Both sides of the political spectrum complain about "activist judges" when rulings are contrary to their political ideology.
I have reprinted some excerpts from The New Doublespeak - Why No One Knows What Anyone's Saying Anymore by William Lutz. There is much here to think about as our Congress goes about the business of confirming the next Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.
