Confused about what "step" you are on for the contract you've been sent?

A step was removed from the 2007-2008 salary schedule.  Contracts are out and Step 1 has once again been removed.  The 2008-2009 salary schedule will only have 18 steps in total.  You advanced like you were getting a step increase over last year but the "number" of the step you will be on is going to remain the same.  For more detailed information take a look at our

Frequently Asked Questions section or view the

SSD Teacher -Level Staff Leave Procedure Early Release 09/04/2008

Occasionally, teacher-level staff are released from their buildings/worksites to leave early  or for an entire workday due to weather, power loss, heat loss, etc.  When buildings/worksites are closed or an early release occurs:

. Teacher-level staff will receive a paid day off if their building/worksite closes  early.

. Teacher-level staff will be paid for an entire day if their building/worksite closes early.

. Teacher-level staff members who report to work, then request to use personal or sick             time on an early dismissal day, and leaves before the building/worksite closes early

will  be charged for the differencee actual time worked and the usual workday of 7.5

         hours.

. When a building/worksite is closed for an entire day, and a teacher-level staff member

has a scheduled a sick or personal absence in advance, leave time will be restored with

one exception.  Leave time will not be restored for teacher-level staff who are on a leave

         of absence.

Teacher-Level Staff with more than 192 workdays

. If the building/worksite of teacher-level staff in partner districts with calendars that

contain more than 192 work days is closed for an entire day, that day will be subtracted

from work days beyond 192.  Teacher-level staff will be paid for scheduled days

         beyond 192 days.

This procedure is effective on July 1, 2008.

Just say NO to Sam's and Walmart Stores! 4/15/2008

SSD has again offered a promotion for a group membership program to Sam's Clubs.  I hope you consider that the Walton family - who own the Sam's and Walmart chain - have contributed millions to promote vouchers and school privitization initiatives.  The NEA opposes any legislation that would allocate public funding to private schools.

We in the NEA are disappointed that SSD continues to promote this offer when so many other retailers - such as Costco and Target stores - actually support public schools and offer competive low cost retail prices without actively working to undermine our public schools.

3-Year Salary Proposal Ratified by SDNEA Members.

Three Regional ratification meetings were held onJune 4, 5, and 6.  The voting results are as follows: 54.5% favored ratification, 45.5% voted to reject the proposal.  A simple majority was required.  The voting was close and the debate was heated.  This is by no means a ringing endorsement of this agreement.  SDNEA will continue advocating that the most senior SSD employees should be paid at a rate comparable to the best paid teachers in St. Louis County.  Look for more information in your home mailbox this summer.

SSD Human Resources will send letters to all employees covered by this agreement with their 2007-2008 salary information.

The new salary schedules may be viewed by selecting the school-year links below.  In addition to the salary schedules, there are also tables that show the dollar raises and percentage increases from one year to the next.

The basics of the agreement are as follows:

2007-2008 (view) there will be a 5% increase in total salary funding or $7,413,049

2008-2009 (view) a 4.125% increase in total salary funding or $6,425,892

2009-2010 (view) a 3.5% increase in total salary funding or $5,672,725

•Top salary in the MA+30 column will increase to $80,484 by 2009-2010 (or 7.31%)

(Not as high as SDNEA had worked for, but significantly higher than what was offered initially.)  View President Jim Ward's bargaining comments.

There will be a reduction in total STEPS so employees get to the top quicker.

(Fewer steps mean significantly more money is earned over time.)

The effective total increase over 3 years will be 13.15% new money for all salaries.

The Joint Resolution language is open for bargaining in the Spring of 2009.

There will be an increase in the tuition reimbursement in FY08 and beyond.

(From a cash value of 3 graduate hours to 6 hours).

The ESY/SNAP/Extra duty hourly rate will increase effective Aug. 15th.

  (From $27.50/hour to $28.00/hour).

Caseload may be an issue you want addressed.

You may believe your caseload numbers are too high.  Article 15.2 of the Joint Resolution stipulates that when a SSD teachers caseload "exceeds 90% of the effective DESE guideling limit" ( 54 ), the teacher will notify their area coordinator to review the caseload and to develop an action plan.       • Click here for the CASELOAD CALCULATION WORKSHEET.
